Portola Coffee Lab, Orange County
Orange County isn't exactly known for being full of hip places, but we're happy to say that we found a few! Notably, Portola Coffee Lab, a local micro-roastery with locations all around Orange County in Costa Mesa, Tustin, Orange, and Santa Ana. Plus, they were named 2015 Micro Roaster of the Year by Roast Magazine!
We stopped by the Costa Mesa location in The OC Mix to try out their coffee, and oh man, is it good! Portola is all about quality and sustainability, from sourcing beans to the brewing method. The space is bright, delightful, and a welcome oasis in Orange County.
Portola also has a unique concept shop called Theorem (which we didn't have a chance to visit, but you totally should!). Theorem is a private coffee bar where baristas create their own personalized coffee drinks, like "cocktail-inspired drinks such as a Coffee Sour, an Old Fashioned prepared with slow drip cold-brewed coffee barrel aged in oak for six months, and a cold-brewed coffee sangria."
We also really loved the concept of The OC Mix, which is home to local boutiques and restaurants. Don't be scared, we know it kind of looks like a mall, but it's a cool one! No chains here, baby. There's the Cellar Cheese Shop, Taco Maria eatery, and yes, even a wine bar at We Olive Wine Bar.
Cloth & Metal is a cool men's boutique where you can find everything you need for the "modern gentleman's lifestyle." Whether it's a new sound system, beard oil, or clothing and accessories, they've got you covered.
Thanks for reading! Have a fav spot in the OC? Let us know in the comments, we really need to know more! XOXO
