Local Sonoma: Fried Chicken + Flowers at Healdsburg Shed
Helloooo, California! We're back in the sunshine state, and what better way to spend a weekend than a road trip from San Francisco to Sonoma County? First up, we visit "SHED" in the adorable town of Healdsburg, California. This place is the bright and beautiful epicentre of all things local, delicious, and hand-made.
It's like a general store for everything you didn't know you needed, from gardening books to craft beer growlers. It is Sonoma, after all! You can buy artisanal supplies for your garden, farm, or house, or just enjoy treats from the pantry.
Right when you walk in you'll find the coffee bar, serving beans from the local heroes Flying Goat Coffee. In the back you'll find the fermentation bar (yes, fermentation bar) complete with house-made kombucha, kefir water, and local wine, beer, and cider! The market has fresh, local flowers, and you can stock up on everything you need for your wine country picnic, from local cheeses to a fresh baguette.
You can sit and stay a while at Shed Café, where you'll find a menu that changes weekly depending on the local produce. Most of the menu is grown within a 10-mile radius of the kitchen, so you can't get much more local than that! You can also take items to go, which is what we decided to do.
After walking around in the Shed, we were drooling at all the delicious food, so it was time to feast! Pretty sure we found the world's best fried chicken too...seriously, this was amazing. Add some beet tzatziki, a freshly baked country loaf, some delicious cheeses, and we were set for the perfect afternoon meal outside on the picnic tables.
If you're heading to Sonoma and want to get local, you definitely need to visit SHED. Also Healdsburg in general, we are really wanting to go back! And not just for the fried chicken ;)
